Detection of inflammatory processes in adult cattle and detection of early and sufficient colostrum intake in newborn calves was carried out by means of the glutaraldehyde coagulation test. From a total of 368 ~lood-sampled dairy cows 108 showed a positive reaction within 6 minutes. Subsequent physical examination of these animals revealed actinomycosis, arthritis, bronchopneumonia, endometritiS, urethritis, hepatitis, mastitis, pododermatitis, subcutaneous abscess, pericarditis, reticuloperitoni tis and vaginitis. Among a total of 67 calves, 22 showed no blood serum coagulation, and their further examination revealed hypogammaglobulinemia caused in majori ty of animals by late colostrum intake. The simple principle of the glutaraldehyde test and rapidly achieved results make it a suitable tool for diagnostic and preventive measures of the veterinary practitioner. Adult cattle, calves, 1.25 % and 10 % glutaraldehyde, inflammatory processes, hypogammaglobulinemia. The development and maintenance of good herd health constitute the basic goal in enhancing production and reproduction of highl) producing animals (V r z g u 1 a et al. 1980). Al though health of ' animals may be genetically related it may be greatly influenced by environmental factors such as nutrition, husbandry and management practices. A disruption of the balance between the organism and its environment makes itself felt to various -degrees by disturbances in physiological functions. This results in generally poor condition and may prod~ce clinical manifestations of disease. Moreover, it may predipose the animals, in particular

BACKGROUND The study evaluated the results of clinical examination and haematological and serum biochemical analyses in 503 cattle with traumatic reticuloperitonitis (TRP). RESULTS The most common clinical findings were abnormal demeanour and general condition (87%), decreased rumen motility (72%), poorly digested faeces (57%), decreased rumen fill (49%), fever (43%) and tachycardia (26%). In...
متن کاملComparison of Two ELISA Screening Tests and a Non-Commercial Glutaraldehyde Coagulation Screening Test for the Detection of Failure of Passive Transfer in Neonatal Foals, by J. T. McClure, J. Miller and J. L. DeLuca; P0645.1103
CITE enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was an unacceptable screening test for failure of passive transfer because of poor sensitivity. SNAP ELISA and glutaraldehyde coagulation tests are more appropriate screening tests. Specificity of the SNAP ELISA is better than the glutaraldehyde coagulation test. A second confirmatory test should be considered when using the glutaraldehyde coagulat...

Biogas production from co-digestion of local brewery waste (BW) and cow dung (CD) was study for value added to this solid waste. The objective of this research was to fine the optimum condition for maximum biogas production and also examined the effectiveness of the biogas residue (liquor from anaerobic digestion process) as a nitrogen source for the production of okro. The experiments were per...
